Drug Uses

Myambutol is used to cure TB infections of the lung. It works by stopping the growth of TB cells. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Usage

The best way to take Myambutol is as directed by your doctor. However, avoid taking antacids that contain aluminum hydroxide for at least 3 to 4 hours after taking the drug. You may take it with or without food.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Myambutol then take it as soon as you remember. But adjust the remaining doses in the day by spacing them out 5 to 6 hours apart.

Storage

Store it at room temperature away from heat, light and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children.

Overdose

As with most other medications, a Myambutol overdose is dangerous. Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect an overdose.

More Information

Myambutol may cause drowsiness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Myambutol. Do not combine with alcohol as it may enhance the above mentioned reactions.

Warnings/Precautions

Do NOT use Myambutol if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Myambutol
you have inflammation of the optic nerve (optic neuritis), you cannot determine if you are having vision changes, or you are unable to report vision changes to your doctor or health care provider

Some medical conditions may interact with Myambutol . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have gouty arthritis or are having a gout attack
if you have cataracts, recurrent eye inflammation, or eye problems caused by diabetes (diabetic retinopathy)
if you have kidney or liver problems
